Our Severn and Trent Evaluation Kits contain everything you need to create POCs and experiments in a lab or R&D environment.
Severn sensors
The Severn sensors are resistive sensor strips, printed in a unique pattern that divides the print into 12 sensing segments. This allows conductive liquid to be detected and located along the sensor.
Within each segment, there are a pair of interdigitated conductive tracks. When a conductive liquid bridges these tracks, there is an change in the conducted current. This signal can be detected and filtered by the microcontroller on the Severn Evaluation Board.
The gap between these interdigitations determines the sensor’s sensitivity, so narrower gaps can detect smaller droplets, while wider gaps reject them (and environmental effects such as condensation). As this sensor detects the change in conducted current, it is optimised to detecting conductive liquids, e.g. water and aqueous solutions.
Severn evaluation board
The Severn evaluation board has been manufactured specifically for the Severn sensor and its future updates. It includes a microcontroller, FFC connector for the printed sensor, power switch, status LEDs and a Micro USB port.
The board includes an Arduino UNO-compatible shield footprint, allowing for additional future capabilities. The Micro USB port outputs serial data of the sensor's measurements.
Trent sensors
The Trent sensor comprises three printed electrode pairs that create a capacitive sensor to monitor liquid levels from the outside of any non-conductive (e.g. non-metallic) container, without being in direct contact with the liquid.
The three electrodes are:

We have collaborated with Henkel to bring the Sensor INKxperience Kit to our partners and customers. The kit contains both the Severn and Trent Evaluation Kit, as well as more sensors, developed by Henkel, to explore a whole range of use cases.
